Uploading Files as a Batch
You can file several files from the Windows file system to yuuvis® RAD using drag and drop or copy and paste. In this case, you have the option to perform the further steps in the creation process, such as defining the object type and editing the metadata, separately or as a batch.
If you choose to do so as a batch, you only need to enter the same metadata for all files once. Other metadata can be automatically extracted from the file’s metadata (for example, image size, geographical coordinates, comments). The corresponding metadata fields are indicated by ex (metadata automatically extracted from the document file) or by df (metadata prepopulated using a default value) (see Prepopulated Metadata Fields).
-
Drag and drop multiple files from your Windows file system onto the yuuvis® RAD client workspace.
Alternatively, you can copy multiple documents from your file system to the Windows clipboard using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+C and paste them to yuuvis® RAD client at a location of your choice using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+V.
The Upload file(s) filing menu appears.
-
Drop the file in the filing menu.
You will see several different filing destinations, depending on the context:
-
Create in the marked structure element.
Files the files with indexing in the folder that is currently open. This option is only offered when the folder view is open (see The Folder View).
-
Add to context
Files the files in the folder that is currently open. This option is only offered when the folder view is open.
-
General filing location
Files the files in the main folder (root) of the yuuvis® RAD filing system. The document files can be moved to a different filing location later (see Moving Document Files).
You can remove individual files or cancel the entire creation process by clicking the Remove icons.
-
-
Click the button for the desired filing location.
A message box will appear, prompting you to process the files separately or as a batch.
If you select the separately option, the files will be listed individually in the in-tray in the objects to be filed list. This allows you to edit the object type and the metadata for each file individually.
If you select the as a batch option, the files will be listed as a batch in the in-tray in the objects to be filed list. The assignment of the object type and editing of metadata will be performed for all files at the same time.
-
Use the mouse to select one of the two options separately or as a batch.
The in-tray opens.
A duplicate check is carried out (see Duplicate Check).
If you have selected the separately option, each file will be displayed separately in the objects to be filed list, so that you have the option of filing each file separately.
If you have selected the as a batch option, all files will be displayed in one entry with the comment 2 files and more in the objects to be filed list. In addition, all files in the filing area will be displayed in a file list.
-
Select the desired object type from the list of permitted object types in the filing area of the in-tray.
If you have assigned an object type to one or more objects in the clipboard, you can correct this assignment as long as the objects have not been permanently stored. To do this, click the Reset object type button in the header of the filing area. The list of permitted object types is then available again for object type reassignment.
The metadata area opens.
-
Enter the corresponding metadata in the metadata area.
Mandatory fields are indicated by an asterisk.
Metadata fields that are prepopulated by the object type definition are indicated by a df. Fields that are marked with an ex extract the metadata from the metadata of the document file (see Prepopulated Metadata Fields). The Metadata section describes your options for maintaining metadata in yuuvis® RAD (see Editing Metadata).
Manually entered data has priority, i.e., it overwrites automatically imported data in case of conflict.
No extracted data will be shown in the metadata fields indicated as such for files to be filed as a batch. If you enter information in these fields, it will overwrite all extracted data that has not yet been shown. If you do not enter anything in these fields, all of the extracted data will be transferred when filed. The batch files are listed again below the metadata form and can be viewed in the content preview.
-
Exit the creation process by clicking File or File and open.
The document file is filed in the yuuvis® RAD filing system.
Batch file uploads are designed for files up to 5 MB in size. Much larger files may have a negative impact on system performance. If you regularly upload batches with more than ten files, please use components from Talend Open Studio .
