Renaming Files and Folders
Folders and files in enaio® coLab can be renamed. The project member rights (see User Roles) and the object type determine who may rename which objects (see Objects and Permissions).
Renaming Folders
We distinguish between folders that were created using an coLab object type and folders that were created using an enaio® object type when renaming folders. You can recognize both folder types in enaio® coLab in the Files view by the fact that there is no icon in the directory structure behind enaio® folders and that there is a
More actions icon behind coLab folders.
-
Renaming folders based on an enaio® object type
Folders based on an enaio® object type can only be renamed in enaio®. The prerequisite for renaming folders is that the project member is also an enaio® user. enaio® users need to open the root object location to rename a folder in an enaio® client (see The Root Object). There you can rename the desired folder or register, provided that you have the corresponding rights in enaio® (see enaio® client
and enaio® webclient
).
-
Renaming folders based on an coLab object type
Project room owners and project members with the corresponding user-based role can rename folders that were created in enaio® coLab based on an coLab object type or uploaded from the local file directory. The
Rename folder function is shown for the corresponding folders in the
More actions menu.
Renaming Files
There are different ways to rename files since they can have different origins in enaio® coLab:

Project room owners and project members with a corresponding user-based role can rename files in enaio® coLab. Standard project members and project members with the Guest role are not allowed to rename files in enaio® coLab.
-
In the
Files view, click the
More actions icon of the file you want to rename.
The More actions menu opens.
-
In the More actions menu, click the

You do not have the right to rename files if the
Index data icon is grayed out.
The Index data dialog opens.
-
Change the title or description of the relevant file in the fields of the dialog. You can enter up to 50 to 200 characters including spaces in the Title and Info fields. The numbers above the input field indicate the number of characters you can enter and how many characters you have already entered.
-
When you are finished, click the
Save changes button.
The file will be renamed to enaio® coLab in the file view.
The renamed file will be renamed with enaio®.
Documents checked out in enaio® cannot be renamed in enaio® coLab. In enaio®, documents are checked out when editing their contents in order to prevent access conflicts with other enaio® users. If such an enaio® document is linked to an coLab project room and is currently being edited in enaio®, it cannot be renamed in enaio® coLab. When such an attempt is made, the coLab user will be alerted via a message. Once the enaio® document is checked back in, it can also be renamed again in the coLab project room.

Files added from enaio® based on an enaio® object type can only be renamed in an enaio® client. They can only be renamed by project members who are also enaio® users.
enaio® users need to open the root object location to rename files in an enaio® client (see The Root Object). There you can rename the desired files, provided that you have the corresponding rights in enaio® (see enaio® client and enaio® webclient
).
If you have renamed folders and files in enaio®, you may have to update the contents of your browser tab in enaio® coLab so that you can see the new names. Click the Refresh icon in your browser to refresh.
If the features described above are not available to you, then it may be because you have been assigned a user-defined role that does not contain the corresponding rights. Contact a coLab administrator or the project room owner if you have any questions or if you need these rights.
