Black border

If you enable this filter (Enable) a black border on the image will change to white. The height and width of the picture do not change. Select the Crop option to adjust the image's size (height and width) after the black borders have been removed.

A black border always contains small white areas. Use the White Noise Gap value to enter a maximum value for width and height of these white areas, which are still considered part pf the black border.

Align

If this filter is enabled (tick Enable in the Detection and Correction areas) a crooked picture will be straightened.

Enter a value under Minimum Angle. Less tilted images will not be straightened.

Enter a value under Maximum Angle. More tilted images will not be straightened.

Deshade

If this filter is enabled (tick Enable in the Detection and Correction areas), gray areas in a picture, such as a gray background in columns, will be removed.

With the Minimum Width of Area and Minimum Height of Area values you can specify the minimum width and height for an area which will be considered gray.

With the Maximum Speckle Width and Maximum Speckle Height values you can specify the maximum size of the black speckles which form the gray area.

With the Speckle Width Compensation and the Speckle Height Compensation values you can specify a positive or negative horizontal adjustment value for the size of the black speckles which form the gray area.

Clean

If you enable this filter (tick Enable in the Removal area) small black speckles in an image will be removed.

With the Width and Height values you can specify the maximum width and height in pixels for a black area to be removed.

Filter

The filters described here are less exact than the configurable filters. They usually are accurate enough if you simply enhance the readability of scanned pages but do not want to improve barcode or character recognition.

Filters can be enabled by ticking the Enable checkbox. Then select the filters from the list in the Image Filter Properties window.

Outline

Line removal

This filter removes horizontal and vertical streaks after scanning as well as lines such as boundary lines in tables. This filter removes horizontal and vertical streaks after scanning as well as lines such as boundary lines in tables.

The filter for horizontal lines can be enabled by ticking the Horizontal checkbox in the Enable area and confirming with OK.

Enter the Minimum Length and Maximum Height of the horizontal line to be removed.

There may be white pixels within lines. You can define a Maximum Break value within a line.

Lines can have irregular borders. You can enter a value defining the maximum number of pixels which directly adjoin the line and will be removed together with the line.

After removing a horizontal line that has crossed other characters, you can fully restore removed parts of these characters. Enable the filter for character restoring by ticking the Horizontal Character Reconstruction checkbox in the Enable area. Define the minimum height of a structure considered to be a character (Minimum Repair Height) and the maximum width of a structure considered to be a character (Maximum Repair Width).

The filter for vertical lines can be configured in the same way in the Vertical Character Reconstruction area.
