Links to External URLs and Applications
External applications can be retrieved directly from object lists (e.g., in a hit list or in a folder), and external web applications or websites can be retrieved via embedded URLs in enaio® webclient, enaio® webclient as a desktop application, and enaio® mobile.
The function is made available by the administrator of your enaio® system and can vary from system to system as a result (also see Links to external URLs/applications ). The links are made available to you in the context menu of a selected object.
Depending on the configuration, the links can be made available in only one, multiple, or all object types. The links can likewise be opened if you select multiple objects in an object list – provided that all selected objects support the corresponding link. If one of the selected objects does not support the corresponding configuration, the link is not displayed in the context menu.
The use of the links can also be restricted to users or user groups as well as to clients (enaio® webclient, enaio® webclient as a desktop application or enaio® mobile).
Document files that are transferred to external applications via links are not checked out and thus remain editable for other users (see Checking a Document In and Out). After being edited in the external application, the document files must be uploaded again to the enaio® filing system as new variants (see Managing Variants).
The following procedures are currently supported:
-
external URLs
enaio® webclient, enaio® webclient as a desktop application, and enaio® mobile support the opening of external URLs in the browser. External URLs can be opened and web applications started via such links.
If you have selected multiple objects and open a URL link, then only one website is opened or one web application is started.
-
external applications
External applications can be called in enaio® webclient as a desktop application similar to enaio® client, in addition to URLs. Data and files can also be transferred with this type of link, depending on the linked application and the configuration. This makes it possible, for example, to transfer documents to applications such as Word, Excel, or Photoshop for viewing or editing (see Editing linked documents using external applications).
Document files that are transferred to external applications via links are not checked out and thus remain editable for other users (see Checking a Document In and Out).
