If you know certain information about the folders, registers, and documents you are looking for, it’s best to use the object search. The object search can be found in the main menu in the 
Object search area.
Restrict the search in the object search using the index data, the basic parameters (e.g., creator, editor, creation/editing date), and/or the full-text search of the objects. All search terms for objects, i.e., index data, basic parameters, and full text, can be combined.
The full-text search in the index data and in the basic parameters is only available if the object type supports full-text searches.
The searches are run from the index data forms. The result is shown as a hit list.
To search for folders, registers, and documents, follow these steps

Click or tap on the
Object search icon in the main menu.The navigation area with the object search will open.

In the object search, select the cabinet in which you want to search for the required object and click or tap on the
Arrow icon.The cabinet area with the available object types will open.

Select the object type you are looking for.
The search form will now open.

If you want to include the basic parameters in the search, click or tap on the
'Add basic parameters' icon in the workspace title bar.The input fields for basic parameters are shown.
The administrator can disable the feature across the entire system or only allow users to enter their own user name in the Creator, Editor, and Owner fields (see enaio® Administration
). -
Enter the search terms.

Click or tap on the
Search icon.
The search is executed and the hit list is shown.
Properties of Search Forms
The search form has the same fields, field properties, and catalog buttons as the form that is filled in when you create objects.
Input Options
If you leave all fields of a search form blank, all objects of the same type will be displayed.
Checkboxes that have been assigned a 
neutral status in the search form will not be evaluated.
Match case
When designing the form, the administrator can also define whether the search form entries are case-sensitive.
Placeholders
You can also enter placeholders in the search form fields:
- ? stands for exactly one arbitrary character.
- * stands for any number of arbitrary characters.
Text fields can be configured in enaio® client to automatically append the placeholder *. This setting then also applies to enaio® webclient and to enaio® mobile.
Not-equal operators
You can search for all the objects that do not match your search criteria by placing the not-equal operators (<> or !=) at the beginning of a field. Not-equal operators can be combined with placeholders (* or ?). Not-equal operators can be used in text, number, date/time, and catalog fields.
Searching for empty fields
You can search for empty fields by entering the special value #NULL# in the corresponding text field. You can use the not-equal operators (<> or !=) to invert the value. If you enter <>#NULL# in a text box, only those objects will be found for which this field is not empty, i.e., which contain data.
List catalogs and logical combinations
If it is possible to select multiple entries from a list catalog, you will find an Or and an And button above the list. Using these buttons, you can define how multiple values will be logically combined for the search. Add OR and the hit list will contain all objects indexed with at least one of the entries, but enter AND and the hit list will show all objects indexed with all selected entries.
The following applies if you are using enaio® mobile:
Multiple entries in a list catalog are selected in enaio® mobile by ticking the matching checkboxes.
Date and time fields
In the date fields and date/time fields, you can enter either an exact date or an expression according to the following syntax:

| <=01/01/2015 | All dates including this date and dates prior to it |
| >01/01/2015 | All dates after this date |
| >=01/01/2015 | All dates including this date and dates after it |
The same syntax also applies to entries in time fields.
Clicking or tapping on a 
Date add-on icon will open a calendar.
Clicking or tapping on a 
Calendar icon will enter today’s date in the date input field.
Clicking or tapping the Time period button will expand the dialog so you can select time periods.
If you only enter a date in a from field, then dates that are later than/match (>=) the date entered will be searched for. If you only enter a date in a to field, then dates that are earlier than/match (<=) the date entered will be searched for.
The following applies if you are using enaio® mobile on a smartphone:
On smartphones, you can enter time periods by tapping the 
Plus icon to the left of the date input field, which acts to expand the input form.
Clicking or tapping on a 
Time selection add-on will open a time selection dialog. Clicking or tapping on the 
Time period icon will expand the dialog to allow you to select time periods.
How a date or time selection add-on is configured determines whether or not users can select a time period.
Number fields
In number fields enter either the exact number or an expression using the following syntax:
| 1-4 | All numbers from 1 to 4 |
| <4 | All numbers less than 4 |
| <=4 | All numbers less than or equal to 4 |
| >4 | All numbers greater than 4 |
| >=4 | All numbers greater than or equal to 4 |
By clicking or tapping on the interval button, number fields are divided into two interval fields: from-to.
If you only enter a number in the from field, the system will search for all numbers greater than or equal to the number entered. If you only enter a number in the to field, the system will search for all numbers less than or equal to the number entered.
Gender
When searching by gender, you can enter male, female, or other as the search criteria. All you need to do is enter the values m, w or d in the corresponding search field.
Table fields
When searching in table fields, the search will cover the column in which you enter the search term.
Operators and expressions cannot be used for searching within tables in general. The following restrictions therefore apply to searching within tables:

Date and time fields
You can only search for the exact date. Search criteria such as 01.01.2015-01.01.2016, <01.01.2015, <=01.01.2015, >01.01.2015 or >=01.01.2015 are not supported.

Number fields
You can only search for exact numbers. Search criteria such as 1-4, <4, <=4, >4 or >=4 are not supported.

Not-equal operators
Not-equal operators are not supported.

Searching for empty fields
Searching for empty table fields is not supported.
